Perception and rendering of three-dimensional surround sound

چکیده

Recent technological trends facilitate threedimensional stereophony. To this day, no internationally agreed standard for three-dimensional sound reproduction exists. Fundamental research is needed to define basic system parameters and ensure compatibility between different formats. Background in spatial audio perception, stereophonic audio reproduction, and automatic channel format conversion is summarized. The current state of the art in sound processing for loudspeaker playback and objective evaluation of sound field quality features is discussed based on three selected papers. Future research necessary to cope with stereophonic reproduction using arbitrary loudspeaker arrangements is motivated and outlined.
